About Us
A historic restaurant in the heart of Siena
The Pier Pettinaio Restaurant, also known by many as ‘ex Guido’, is located in the heart of Siena, a short walk from Piazza del Campo and Palazzo Tolomei. Its origins date back to 1931, when the Rondini Guidebook mentioned a rosticceria (deli) run by Margherita Burroni at the address then known as vicolo di Pier Pettinagno. In 1935, the eatery was renamed “Guido” when Guido Borri took over the licence and set up the rosticceria and bar that would bear his name for decades.
ver time, the restaurant has changed hands several times, with notable owners including Piero Falchi, Ivo Cingottini & A. Cucini and Sergio Cavion (also known as ‘Sergio della Selva’). It is currently run by Danilo Boschi, who was Captain of the Nobile Contrada del Bruco between 1981 and 1986.
Today, the Pier Pettinaio Restaurant is proud to preserve nearly a century of Sienese history, with its people, stories, and authentic flavours.
A meeting place and a trove of memories
Since the 1930s, our restaurant has been a popular haunt for artists, intellectuals, and celebrities. The walls of the restaurant are filled with photos and memorabilia of unforgettable guests, such as Italian film stars Alberto Sordi and Vittorio Gassman, opera singer Luciano Pavarotti, and Mel Gibson.
The photographs, memories, and anecdotes that fill the spaces turn every visit into a journey through the city’s collective memory.
Tuscan dishes and authentic atmosphere
Pier Pettinaio is more than just a restaurant: it offers an experience. Our dishes draw inspiration from Tuscan traditions, focusing on quality ingredients and authentic flavours. Truffle-based dishes, fresh mushrooms, and the iconic Fiorentina steak are the highlights, paired with the finest Tuscan wines.
Each course tells a story of Siena through a blend of scents and colours, taking you on a sensory journey of taste and territory.
